Role Purpose (overall high level summary of the role)

The Hosting & Data Centre Analyst (H&DCS) role is to support the Technical Architecture function within H&DCS and Data Centre Management (DCM). This includes supporting the delivery of a diverse range of projects covering Hosting, Cloud, and Data Centres as well as process improvements within H&DCS and DCM. The role holder will be responsible for the day-to-day governance of various operational frameworks and systems within H&DCS and DCM as well as assisting with delivering monthly reporting requirements. The role holder will also provide cover when the Technical Architect is unavailable.

Principal Accountabilities: Key activities and decision making areas

Typical Targets and Measures


Impact on the Business / Function

Technical Architecture (70%)
Support the Technical Architect to deliver projects, including:
  • Perform ad-hoc data analysis (mostly Excel based)
  • Liaise with other domains to acquire information and understand processes
  • Assist in documentation and presentation preparation
  • Assist the development of governance and frameworks (mostly SharePoint based)
  • Evolve the SharePoint site and liaise with the SharePoint team to leverage the maximum benefit of the technology
  • Assist in the evaluation of technical products and solutions in support of the technical strategy.
  • Keep up-to-date with the technological developments in the Hosting & Data Centre space

Framework & Governance Support (20%)
  • Contact point for requests and issues with frameworks and governance
  • Troubleshoot issues with frameworks
  • Ensure that data is consistent and accurately maintained

Monthly Governance (10%)
  • Undertake the monthly update of the global Whitespace Inventory (Horizon Plus)
  • Undertake the monthly data extract from group Systems
  • Support the production of the monthly reporting

Role Context (The environment and operating conditions of the role including the extent of guidance and authority)

  • H&DCS covers two primary functions:
    • The governance of all Whitespaces which contain IT hardware supporting HSBC. This includes external Data Centres such as CSPs and SaaS providers
    • The strategy for Hosting & Data Centres
  • DCM covers the operation of internal Data Centre Estate

  • The role holder will receive direction and guidance from the H&DCS Technical Architect but will be expected to work unsupervised on assigned initiatives
  • The primary responsibility over the various frameworks and tooling will be transferred to the role holder as their experience develops. The target end-state is for the Technical Analyst to have responsibility for the frameworks and tooling within H&DCS whilst the Technical Architect maintains overall accountability
  • The role holder will have authority to liaise with other domains on behalf of H&DCS when discussing appropriate topics

Management & Leadership of Regulatory, Compliance & Operational Risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements)

Demonstrate understanding, knowledge and awareness of escalation requirements and procedures on Regulatory & Compliance matters. Maintain awareness of operational risk and minimize the likelihood of it occurring including its identification, assessment, mitigation and control, loss identification and reporting in accordance with section B.1.2 of the Group Operations FIM .

Observation of Internal Controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements)

Maintain and observe HSBC internal control standards, implement and observe Group Compliance Policy, including the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal/external auditors and external regulators. Foster a compliance culture and implement Group Compliance Policy by Supporting the management of compliance risk in liaison with the Head of Group Compliance, Regional Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, support management with ensuring adequate compliance resources are in place, training is undertaken and relations are optimized with regulators.
