The Upstream-IG IT finance team is responsible for the finance governance processes, investment appraisal and the planning,
budgeting and appraisal processes for the UP-IG IT Function. This position is part of the Reporting & Analysis team directly supporting UP-IG IT function. This financial spend is generated within 70 Upstream-Integrated Gas Operating Units in 40 countries globally. The UP-IG Finance Manager is responsible for ensuring data integrity and providing sound, timely and high quality analysis, financial reports and forecasting to decision makers and UP-IG IT CIOs and their leadership teams. The position is responsible for CIO QPA process, Quarter Rolling Forecasts, End to End recoveries and Business Partnering with senior stakeholders. Role reports to the CHT Interface Manager IT but has supporting lines to key business areas and incumbent will be expected to work in a matrix working closely together with the UP-IG IT, UP-IG FM, UP-IG IT FM, UP-IG IT LoB FMs and SOM finance teams in their objective to manage and coordinate IT spend for UP-IG in a consistent and high quality way across the Enterprise. The position is also responsible for TaCIT finance support.

The role requires a strong focus on driving performance improvements and delivering direct value to the business and the UP-IG IT organisation. Finance Leadership *Engage with a wide variety of senior IMIT leaders and stakeholders, CIOs, UP-IG IT LT, UPIG IT FM, UP-IG LoB FMs and IMIT Managers, with other GF teams, TaCIT teams and Processes teams within Finance Operations; establish positive working relationship and strong partnerships whilst working in a virtual environment. * Ensure integrity of data by actively promoting data quality within the Lines of Business. *Provide Change management support to embed various changes in the Finance portfolio (e.g. ERP changes, migrations, MI, systems). *Accountable for project accounting processes and delivering optimization and CI across processes. *Lead/participate UP-IG IT Finance projects/initiatives. *Support JV IT finance interfaces by supporting ITMs and LoB SOMs. * Manage End to End recovery process for UP-IG IT.
Management Information and Business Decision support *Manage the end-to-end financial leadership and reporting process across UP-IG IT ~ $ 1.3 b in line with Shell reporting requirements. * Stimulate cost consciousness and focus on bottom line impact. *Ensure reporting of financial information is delivered at all levels including variance analysis & ‘telling the story’. Challenge and drive corrective actions through the organisation. Drive focus on UP-IG IT reporting errors and drive resolution of ongoing issues. *Pro-actively flag deviations/problems/trends and generate improvement proposals and solutions to correct. *Design and ensure appropriate maintenance of global MI structures. *Improve charging mechanisms, more direct charge looking closely at the business needs; maximize cost recovery and tax deductibility for Operating Units. * Provide direct financial signoff on UP-IG investments for project funding, review of budget and assurance against correct financial treatment. Financial focal point supporting SG2 and SG6 of projects. * Lead engagements and support TaCIT finance support from Finance Operations and work closely with TaCIT Finance Manager in the areas of management information, planning, LE, etc. * Responsible for finance QPAs and Transparency packs for UP-IG.

Business Plan & Strategy

  • Drive and support the planning and budget cycle activities with the aim to achieve an accurate and consistent financial position. * Ensure quarterly Latest Estimate processes are followed; assure accurate submissions working closely with key UP-IG IT staff. * Lead implementation of Agile Planning and Quarterly Rolling Forecast in UP-IG IT area.

Governance & Internal Controls
  • Assess and ensure that proper procedures are followed, and controls are in place, in compliance with Group policies, with an aim to prevent control incidents. * Ensure financial discipline in the UP-IG IT organisation is maintained. * Effective communication of finance issues to staff across multiple disciplines and at multiple levels within the organization.


  • Finance qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or degree equivalent)

  • Strong post-qualifying experience in Finance role(s)
