What you’ll be doing...
In support of the Senior Manager, Network Services, India, plans, directs, manages and oversees the activities and operation of the network team, India including providing carrier relations assistance, peering activations, infrastructure deployment, augments and upgrades, basic, moderate and complex incident troubleshooting and traffic engineering.
Scope of Position
Verizon Digital Media Services (VDMS) is looking for a Technical Lead to join our rapidly growing team in India. We need a senior network engineer with India-specific Internet landscape experience at the CDN level and a firm understanding of provider subject matter expertise for a global network for applications growing at Internet Scale. We want a person with experience leading engineering activities in a global emerging market. As Technical Lead, Network Services, India, you will be responsible for leading the junior members of the India team and influencing the decisions of other highly skilled network infrastructure stakeholders. In addition, you will be responsible for providing guidance on end-to-end delivery of the foundation of the CDN; including capacity management, implementation, automation, maintenance, monitoring, provisioning, standards, process management and change control. Our technical leaders tend to be strong engineers who can dive deep and get involved in addition to being strong people leaders and managers.
Provides technical and professional guidance in the day-to-day management of the network infrastructure in accordance with procedures established by VDMS technical leadership
Work with your direct to define and execute on the India infrastructure vision required to scale, configure, support, and maintain all aspects of the global network infrastructure for health and performance 24/7/365. Remain synchronized with other stakeholder teams to leverage universal processes and workflows for a homogenous network services experience
Provide ongoing guidance to elevate the Network Services, India resources towards a programmatic/infrastructure-as-code mindset using Development Operations (DevOps) best practices to release reliable and modular automation to achieve maximum velocity in productivity while maintaining reliability and performance with every change made to our Global Infrastructure
Identify and communicate opportunities for automation to remove pain points related to: repetiious operational tasks, improved network monitoring tools, configuration generation and standardization, and new circuit and peer implementations
Be a mentor to junior members providing them with guidance and support to achieve their career path and leadership growth objectives
Responsible for the performance, health, and scalability of entire global network infrastructure on a 24/7 basis to ensure company-wide OKR and KPI objects are met
Create clear transparency into the velocity of productivity as well the health and performance of the network by providing Senior Manager, Network Services, India with meaningful and actionable operational metrics
Effectively communicate the goals and direction of the Network Services, India org to junior members of network engineers ensuring resource alignment with VDMS’s global network vision
Take ownership of required network India issue resolution. Ensure communication of correct urgency and severity to network engineers, internal teams and vendor resources
Take accountability to ensure retrospectives and learning review discussions are actionable to ensure implementation of corrective and preventive measures to reduce chance for issue to arise again
Work closely with our vendors (e.g. Juniper, Ciena, Arista, etc.) to ensure the support processes align with VDMS network vision and strategy
Interface with and maintain open communication with internal leadership stakeholders to ensure we are providing excellent service, and that we are receiving the same level of support in return
Work with the NetOps and NOC to drive their resolution of network-related incidents to an acceptable closure rate with appropriate MTTRs tracked and reported to drive continuous improvement.
What we’re looking for...
3 to 5 years of senior level experience in an Internet infrastructure environment
At least 3 years of management experience, leading global infrastructure projects
Expert understanding of Internet routing, BGP, Ethernet switching, LINUX, and related networking technologies
Awareness coding and therefore automation in a network infrastructure environment using Python or other comparable languages, Ansible, and data structures (ie: Yaml/JSON) desired
2 years experience evangelizing and transforming a team of traditional network engineers into a team of resources passionate about CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code
High-level, Low-level and site-specific network documentation knowledge required
Highly responsible, self-motivated leader passionate about helping their employees succeed and thrive
Resource oriented, with the ability to adapt to a constantly changing technical environment
Energetic and fast-paced individual who thrives in a high growth, entrepreneurial environment
